YOUR KEY INSIGHTS FROM mike

Biomimicry

“I struggled with complex concepts as a child, so when I learn concepts I mash it up until it becomes something digestible. So that weakness has become a strength that I can take this really heavy concept of money and financial management and boil down to a really simple process like Profit First. Biomimicry is a simplified version of that. Secondly, it's very memorable. It's a memory technique. I know if I explain something that happens in nature, almost everyone relates to it 'cause we all can relate to nature. If I try to explain an esoteric kind of complex subject that can't connect with people, I'll lose them, so I know it's a connection piece.

Nature is simple, and we all can relate, even if we're not an outdoorsman type of person, we still have an appreciation for nature. I think everyone has a visceral relation to it, so that's why I think it works so effectively.”

Finding your qbr

Every business has a survivability factor. The QBR (Queen Bee Role) is a singular, core function within our business that is the most important function for the operations of our business. Most business have no idea what it is and therefore, it's not protected. But once you know what it is, you have you protect it, and if everyone protects it… The business will thrive.

In my own business, I ask myself, what's the most important thing we do? Now, here's how you get it. First, ask what is the biggest promise you make to your customer, what was the guarantee you're making to your customer? For me, it’s that ‘I make entrepreneurship simpler’, My mission is to eradicate entrepreneurial poverty, but my promise to my consumer is I'll make the entrepreneurial journey simpler. Once you know your promise, then you ask, What are all the activities that support that? For me, I do speaking interviews, writing books, but which is the one that most elevates that promise? For me, it's writing books. If I put my efforts towards that my effect on society will slowly but consistently climb. What is your most important activity? Protect it with everything you have. Devote your best time to that.”

Gardening as a life cycle

“I think is miraculous to see life from conception to death, to watch that, and you can watch it in three-month cycles. It speaks a little bit to the human journey.. Secondly is, it can be a meticulous process, there's a moment when you are so engaged in the activity that you have to exclude everything else, and that is a form of meditation, that is actually the definition of meditation. Gardening at the elite level, not like I do, but I've experienced just moments where you are so engaged in the process that you actually hit a meditative state, so that's I think the big biggest value...”
