nature forces you to become present
“If you become curious and excited and tuned in to everything you're seeing it, you become so much bigger than just yourself. And one of the things that nature does.. it forces you to become present. There's this slow indoctrination of technology and AI, and people are not even recognizing it. It's pulling you away from nature.
I really tried to architect my life to where I do have that sacred time, right in the morning. I don't get on my phone. And there's this time when the weather starts to hit, and I'll go onto my paddleboard early in the morning. It's just really communing, and just having that relationship with nature. It's just so important for that time, because then I'm so anchored. I can start my day with peace. I can start my day with high energy. I know that whenever I show up, I'm showing up on my A-game, because I've really paid myself first and invested in my time so that I can strengthen it.”
Subtracting to Add
“Grounding, being out in nature, just getting outside… it can completely shift your life. And if you have the right framework, it really will. In a lot of my C level coaching that I do with some Fortune 500, they say, “you don't understand my life and I can't take the time.” But I ask, “What is it costing you? Let's really look at this, let's pull it back and look at this.”
When I make a few behavioral hacks and scheduling hacks, it opens up. I have this one keynote that I do all over. And it's called subtracting to add. And it really goes into it pretty deep about looking at where you are. And looking at the transition times and paying yourself first and looking at what's really important to you to be in alignment, so you can live congruent. Are you actually doing those things? And if you're not, then everything is useless. That's just the honest to goodness truth. You know, you might be in a job that was really sucking your soul completely out and with the commute times, you weren't able to really be present, because your mind was a cacophony going on all the time. And so, look at your life now. You jumped off the hamster wheel, you got intentional, and you architected it so you could have the things that were important to you, which was your marriage, and your parenthood. You were able to become so aligned with your mission of what you wanted to do and how you wanted to serve, your impact and your influence actually went up. But look where you are, and look what you're doing. So you've intentionally architected it, both professionally and personally to do that, and you're out in nature a whole lot.”
meditation
“I was having this conversation actually with Dr. Deepak Chopra and were talking about infinite potential. We were talking about how to actually ground. For those people who actually are just there in the concrete, how do you ground?
One of the things is, and it is so very important for me, and it's a practice that is a non-negotiable and it is meditation. If you're new to meditation, they make wonderful apps that you can use, but to meditate actually grounds you and centers you. And you can do it on a balcony, if you're in the city, or if you're not you can get outside and just be in nature and meditate. That's a really beautiful thing because it does it center you. I could probably spend the next 30 minutes and tell you what it does to your body between that and then breath work. These things are so incredibly important because you're getting back in tune with what you need to do. So those are definitely a couple of them that I would recommend.”
Daily Holy Habits
“These things are foundational to to set you up as an elite performer, whether it's professionally or personally. I do it for both. You've got to get these really amazing habits. One is meditation - it lowers your blood pressure, and it brings you into center, your focus becomes clear. You just don't have the aches and the stress. Add to it the breath work, which of course, is going to be infusing your body. All the things that happen physiologically, but psychologically. One of the things that happens too is you're not frenetic, because you cannot be focused. So they're really very important.”
“It's really kind of goes back to the daily holy habits. And it's practicing gratitude. Because when you're in a state of gratitude and thanksgiving it changes on a physical level. It also changes vitals physically, it can change the way that your sales even align from an epigenetic standpoint. If you combine these holy habits…
Everybody goes, I don't have any time for that. But the time that you're flicking on your phone is about the amount of time that it's really going to take you to incorporate this in your schedule. Meditate, do some breath work…
When you when you combine all these and you throw in the gratitude, it's a mood booster. It will change your serotonin levels, your dopamine levels. It will change all these and you don't need to take medication for that. When you really start to give yourself in nature, this is everything. So I just think that we just need to get really dialed in and tuned in and tapped into those things so that we could then show up right with intention, and then our days will be much smoother.”
